KUCHING: Taib sees BN Club as platform for ex-SPDP elected representatives to serve the people.

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud believes it is not impossible for the five former Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) elected representatives, better known as the G5 to reconcile with the party.

In the mean time he lauded the formation of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Club by the G5 to enable them to continue serving the people.

He said the move by the five former SPDP office bearers comprising Assistant Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Peter Nansian, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri, Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus, Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang to form the BN Club should be appreciated.

Taib added that the G5 were elected legitimately through the party machinery and though they had quit SPDP, they still subscribed to BN principles and thus should be left as they were.

?If they want to be as they are like their present situation, then let it be?give them time to probably find a way to reconcile. I think that is not completely impossible.

?I think SPDP has much to lose and without five of its elected representatives the party is not in a good position,? he said.

He said the club could be a non-political movement but it did not matter as long as there was a link point.

?If they want to keep the unity they can use any forum they want provided it is motivated by acceptable objectives.

?They subscribe to BN principle?

?Here, their objective is to show support to BN? to participate in BN?to continue serving the people who elected them.

?Their followers are still loyal to BN and that is why they accepted the formation of the BN Club and this is something I think should be appreciated as a show of good faith and loyalty,? he said.

Presently SPDP has two state assemblymen in the person of its president Tan Sri William Mawan (Pakan) and Wong Judat (Meluan) and three MPs namely Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan (Baram), Deputy Home Minister Jelaing Mersat and Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Bintulu).

The other state seats formerly represented by the party are Tasik Biru (Nansian), Marudi (Entri), Bekenu (Rosey) and Batu Danau (Paulus) and Mas Gading (Dr Tiki).

The party however lost its representation in the four seats after the respective assemblypersons decided to quit the party following a leadership crisis.

Taib, who is also the state BN chairman, said this after handing over the Chief Minister?s Cup for the coming International Junior Tennis Championship 2012 at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
