ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) hosted its 24th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards tonight at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. The event, which was attended by hundreds of songwriters, recording artists and music industry leaders, paid special tribute to Sean ?Diddy? Combs and Mary Mary, and honored the songwriters and publishers of the most performed ASCAP songs on the 2010 R&B/Hip-Hop, Rap and Gospel charts.
The evening featured performances by R&B artist Miguel and rapper Pusha T, R&B singer/songwriter Andrea Martin and gospel music duo Mary Mary, and was attended by some of the top names in the music and entertainment industry, including Sean ?Diddy? Combs, Dr. Dre, Drake, Kerry ?Krucial? Brothers, Foxy Brown, Lyor Cohen, MC Lyte, Ne-Yo, Kelly Rowland among others.
One of the evening?s highlights was a special tribute to Sean ?Diddy? Combs, who was honored with ASCAP?s Founders Award in recognition of his achievements as a producer, artist, entrepreneur, actor and icon whose creative genius continues to shape the course of music.? To celebrate the legendary music mogul, Clark Kent performed a DJ set chronicling his career, and surprise guest Dr. Dre shared some personal remarks and co-presented the award with ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams.
Grammy Award-winning gospel music duo Mary Mary were presented with ASCAP?s Golden Note Award, which is given to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones. Past recipients include Jermaine Dupri, Jay-Z, Quincy Jones, LL Cool J, New Edition and Lionel Richie.
ASCAP Publisher of the Year honors went to EMI Music Publishing who was honored for 21 award-winning songs. Top Song Awards went to Alicia Keys? ?Un-Thinkable (I?m Ready)? written by Kerry ?Krucial? Brothers, Alicia Keys and Noah ?40? Shebib, which was named Top R&B/Hip-Hop Song.

After canceling her North American tour earlier this month due to laryngitis, Adele has just announced the rescheduled dates for the trek. She will resume performing beginning on August 9 in Vancouver.
After the stop in Canada, the tour circles back around to missed tour dates on the West Coast and in the Midwest, wrapping up on August 24. Adele is also set to add six more dates to the tour, stopping in Las Vegas; Atlantic City, New Jersey; Durham, North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; Miami; and Spring, Texas from October 7 through October 21.
Despite the health setback, Adele's album 21 has been bouncing around the top of the charts for more than three months now. Atop the charts for the last 10 of the 17 weeks it's been out, this week it lands at #3, falling behind Bad Meets Evil's (better known as Eminem and Royce Da 5'9'') Hell: The Sequel as well as 11-year-old "America's Got Talent" soprano opera singer Jackie Evancho's Dream With Me.
So, why is Adele so unstoppable this year? "It shows the power ... of her fanbase. You've got a song that's performing very, very well, still being discovered by new people every week," Nielsen SoundScan's senior vice president of analytics Dave Bakula told MTV News. "You've got an artist here who wasn't a household name prior to this record coming out, so you do still have that discovery process going on with her.
"What it really goes to show is the fact that there still are that many people discovering the album every week," he added. "I think it shows a lot about the latent demand that is out there for great music."

Just when you think the People's State of California couldn't possibly inflict more damage on its own economy, out comes a regulatory proposal so astonishing you have to wonder whether the destruction of an entire industry is its actual intent.
So-called zero emissions vehicles, which could more accurately be labeled coal burning cars given the source of most of our nation's electricity, are part of a troika of green fetishes that have captured the fevered imaginations of central planners. Not content with the incentives provided by a $7,500 federal tax rebate attached to cars like Government Motors' Chevy Volt, California is proposing a rule that would fine auto makers $5,000 per vehicle if at least 5.5% of the new cars they sell in the state are not electric. The new rule, which would start siphoning money from the economy in 2018, would hike the green sales quota to 14% by 2025.
Nevermind that the charging infrastructure to support that many electric cars doesn't exist and can only be conjured up with massive taxpayer subsidies. Nevermind that California's own Clean Vehicle Rebate Project designed to transfer an additional five thousand taxpayer dollars into the pockets of electric car buyers goes broke in July. Nevermind that the only way switching to an electric fleet could reduce carbon emissions would be by ripping out every fossil fuel power plant in the state while covering the countryside with taxpayer subsidized windmills and solar plants - presumably the next stage of some master plan.
Nevermind that the resulting leap in electricity rates would both impoverish consumers and drive away even more businesses, further collapsing state tax revenues.
A better solution - don?t sell cars in California. :P

As someone that lives in California, I say go for it Democrats. The more of these business killing laws and regulations you pass, the sooner the collapse, and the sooner we can get back on the road to recovery.
I am not sure if we have gone over the cliff yet, if not we are very close. The out of control spending with the out of control environmental laws and the out of control social engineering has just about destroyed what was once the richest state in the union.

Because Adam sinned, we, his children, are born tainted by sin.? Although we are made in the image of God, much has been twisted through sin and Satan?s deceptions.? In Genesis 2, we read that God created marriage before sin entered the world.? So, monogamy is "normal" or "natural" for man in his sinless state.? Yet, the sinful nature that we are born with desires that which is harmful to us.? Just as a young child will take another child's toy, pushing him to the ground, we adults want to indulge our senses at the expense of others.

It doesn't help that we live in a very me-centered and selfish culture, that uses man's tendencies for lust as an opportunity for successful advertising or increasing popularity of a TV show.? The culture tells us that lust is ok for married men, and that we're just being "normal."? In reality, we are being fed a lie from Satan himself?that God?s plan of marriage and fidelity is not as good as sleeping around.? God loves us and has created a beautiful world for our pleasure and his glory.? Life-long relationships between man and wife bring security and fulfillment that no other relationship can.? They create loving households for kids to grow up securely in.? This is God?s plan, this is what He made us for, and this is the best and most wonderful way to live.? Anyone who says that another way is better is either deceived or is trying to deceive you.

Perhaps your pastor was simply saying that in his sinful state, man is not wired for monogamy.? This is true, as sinful man can never understand the truth and beauty of the things of God.? But once one comes to faith in Christ, turning from sin and trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior, God will work the man?s heart to reject the lies of the Devil, to see the foolishness of jumping from one woman to the next, and to grow in faith and Christ-likeness.

It is vital that he is vigilant--every day he will be assaulted with enticing ads on TV, movies, or simply a young woman jogging down the street.? Each day he must fight these small battles, choose to look away, and swim against the current.

Let him find strength in the Word through the Hold Spirit.? Secondly, by surrounding himself with other godly men facing the same assaults from the culture, he can be encouraged and begin to define a new "normal."? If there's one thing many mothers are good at, it's guilt. Doesn't matter how hard they try, many moms can make themselves feel guilty about every imperfection in their parenting, whether or not it's really a problem.
This can be particularly acute for stay at home moms who find a need to start working at home. Didn't they start staying at home to be there for their kids? Are they depriving their kids by taking a part of their day in order to work?
It gets even worse when others add to the guilt trip. Some people insist work at home moms can't be fair to their children while earning an income from home. What's a stay at home mom to do?
Quit Letting the Guilt Get to You
You can't always keep from feeling guilty about the things that keeping you from being available to your kids every minute. Not do you only have other things to get done around your home, you have the right to some amount of your own life.
When it comes to doing the things you need to get done, you shouldn't feel guilty if you need help with the kids or if they have to wait a bit for your attention. This includes doing the things you have to do in order to earn enough money from home that you can stay at home.
You don't have to be immediately available to every whim of your child to still be more available than you would be working outside your home. You're also showing your children the reality of what it takes to earn a living. That's not a bad example for them - odds are they'll be doing that themselves someday, whether at a job outside their homes, or following your example and working from home.
There may be times when the stresses of working at home will make you a little short tempered with your family. It happens to the best of us. But it's real, and rather than feeling guilty about it, make sure you're setting the example of handling the stresses and your temper as best you can. The way you handle these times will make an impression on your kids.
Schedule Around the Needs of Your Children
Your schedule when you work at home is often quite flexible. As much as you can, work it around the needs of your children. This allows you to be more available to them when they need you.
That means working late nights or early mornings for many work at home parents, plus naptimes when you need daytime hours with an infant, toddler or preschooler, or during school hours for older kids.
It doesn't always work out for all of us to work such a schedule, but you do what you can. If you really need work time when the kids are going to be around and active, try trading babysitting, getting a mother's helper or even paying for daycare, especially if the need is going to be a regular thing. It's not that unusual for a work at home parent to need some help with the kids, especially the younger ones.
Remember That Children Need to Develop Independence
Particularly as the kids get older, teaching them to entertain themselves as you work is a way to encourage their independence. As kids get older, they really don't need your attention every minute, even when they think they do.
I don't mean leave your very young child unsupervised unnecessarily or unsafely. I do mean teaching your children how to have fun without you in age appropriate ways. Coloring, playing with blocks and other toys, reading, things like that.
If you have a laptop you can often lightly monitor your kids as they play on their own, even outdoors if you find a place where you can read your screen comfortably. It all depends on how much supervision is needed, and how much you can be distracted and still get work done, which varies quite a bit depending on what you do and your work style.
Take Breaks
Be sure to take breaks not only from working, but from parenting too. During your work day, take a short break every hour or so, and longer ones every few hours. These are great times to get a bit done around the house, interact with the kids or just relax a little.
Take breaks from parenting sometimes to remember who you are on your own. Get out with your spouse or with friends. Read a book you want to read just for the fun of it. Make time for one of your hobbies. Be you.
Don't Compare Yourself to Others
This is important both in your professional life and your personal life. Spend too much comparing yourself to others, and you won't appreciate so much the things you do get done.
You can't compare your progress in your working life to how others are doing. They probably aren't doing exactly the same thing, and they don't have your exact home situation.
You can't compare how you keep your home to how others manage it. They probably have different priorities, different rules, a different amount of time to care for their home, and so forth.
Just forget the comparisons. If you're doing well enough for what your family needs, that's pretty good.
Know How Much You Can Take On
It's all too easy to take on too much when you work at home. The commitment to being a stay at home mom or dad is already pretty huge. Add in working at home, and the time commitment grows tremendously. You have to know how much work you can take on with everything else you need to get done, and balance that with the income you need to bring in for the sake of your family.
Remember the Alternatives
If you weren't working at home, what would you be doing? Could you afford to be a stay at home mom or dad without the additional income? Would you have to go back to work outside your home? Would you have to tighten your belts but otherwise make it without the income you bring working at home?
A lot of parents work at home because they need the income for their families. Others don't need it quite so badly, but work because they love what they do. Still others are keeping their skills in so that they can go back to work when the kids get older.
Whatever your reason for working at home, you probably gave it a lot of thought. Working at home isn't so simple that most people can just plunge into it. There's usually a long search for just the right job or home business opportunity, and much concern about scams.
Working at home may keep you busy when the kids wish you were free sometimes, but how would it go if you worked outside the home? You'd be gone for hours a day and have much less choice in most cases about which hours you work. You'd have a commute, whether short or long. You'd have to figure out how your children would be cared for while you're at work.
That's not the worst thing; many families have no choice but to have both parents working, and make it work for them just fine, but if it's not what you want for your family, you only have so many ways to avoid it. You can work at home and lose some of the free time you have available to your family or you can deal with having a single income and all the risks and limitations that entails.
Don't try to be Supermom and have the perfect home, perfect family while working long hours to add to the family's income. It doesn't work that way all the time and you'll burn out trying to do it all. Get everyone to help out and know that the small stuff has to slide so you can take care of the big things.
Too often work at home moms try to keep their home as perfectly as they would if they didn't have a job, plus be there every moment for their kids. That's not fair to anyone. Not you as a parent who never gets a moment alone. Not to your kids who learn that parenthood means running around completely frazzled, doing things for everyone else and not for yourself. It's not the example I suggest you make.
If everyone is safe, reasonably happy and properly fed, you're doing it right. The rest is extra. Odds are your family will be impressed with all you accomplish no matter how guilty you feel about the things you think you should have done.
A Swiss company says it has developed rechargeable zinc-air batteries that can store three times the energy of lithium ion batteries, by volume, while costing only half as much. ReVolt, of Staefa, Switzerland, plans to sell small "button cell" batteries for hearing aids starting next year and to incorporate its technology into ever larger batteries, introducing cell-phone and electric bicycle batteries in the next few years. In the late 1980s they were considered one of the most promising battery technologies because of their high theoretical energy-storage capacity, says Gary Henriksen, manager of the electrochemical energy storage department at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. Because of these advantages, nonrechargeable zinc-air batteries have long been on the market. But making them rechargeable has been a challenge. Inside the battery, a porous "air" electrode draws in oxygen and, with the help of catalysts at the interface between the air and a water-based electrolyte, reduces it to form hydroxyl ions. These travel through an electrolyte to the zinc electrode, where the zinc is oxidized--a reaction that releases electrons to generate a current.
For recharging, the process is reversed: zinc oxide is converted back to zinc and oxygen is released at the air electrode. But after repeated charge and discharge cycles, the air electrode can become deactivated, slowing or stopping the oxygen reactions. This can be due, for example, to the liquid electrolyte being gradually pulled too far into the pores, Henriksen says. The battery can also fail if it dries out or if zinc builds up unevenly, forming branch-like structures that create a short circuit between the electrodes.

The hock is the tip of what look like a backwards elbow that is the hind legs on a horse. ?

?It?s not a major thing,? Bramlage said. ?I agree with Dr. Richardson that the best course of action is to keep the colt inactive for two weeks and radiograph the leg again. In two weeks it should settle down and he should be sound again. I don?t think it is going to separate, but that would be the worry?.
?Right now it is a tiny crack, and technically you could call it a fracture. But I would characterize it as more of a fissure because of how small it is. He lit up pretty good on the nuclear scan. Normally, no matter how hard a horse hits his leg on the ground in an accident, there is not enough force to show this type of uptake on the scan for a period of at least 10 days?.
?This tells me that, like a lot of racehorses, he probably had a little something going on in there that he was dealing with. But when he hit the ground with such force in the accident, he overloaded the bone and this is the result?.
?The good news is that this should not cost him the entire season. I would hope that he would be able to return to training in a matter of weeks.? Owner Barry Irwin said he hopes Animal Kingdom can return to training in a few weeks, but a summer?campaign appears to be out. ?I would think the summer races are going to be out,? Irwin said. ?We?ll look forward to a fall campaign.?

PRAGUE ? The Czech Republic is withdrawing from U.S. missile defense plans out of frustration at its diminished role in a new U.S. plan, the Czech defense minister told The Associated Press Wednesday.
The Bush administration first proposed stationing 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and an advanced radar in the Czech Republic, saying the system was aimed at blunting future missile threats from Iran. But Russia angrily objected and warned that it would station its own missiles close to Poland if the plan went through.
In September 2009, the Obama administration shelved that plan and offered a new, reconfigured phased program with a smaller role for the Czechs, who were offered an early warning center that would gather and analyze information from satellites to detect missiles aimed at NATO territory.
Defense Minister Alexander Vondra told the AP that the Czech Republic wanted to participate but "definitely not in this way."
"They gave us an offer and we assessed that," Vondra said. "I would say we've solved it in an elegant way."
Vondra spoke Wednesday after meeting U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn.
The two men said both sides will be looking at possibilities of Czech participation in the future.
"We can return to it at some point but it's premature at the moment," Vondra said. "We have certain ideas but it's too early to speak about them."
Vondra and Lynn told reporters during an earlier news conference that the official reason for the Czech withdrawal was that the center was no longer needed after a bigger role for NATO in the new system was endorsed at a summit in Lisbon last year.
"The offer that we made has been overtaken by events," Lynn said. "The Lisbon summit has changed the nature of the missile defense framework that we're operating in. The offer, while I think an interesting one, a good one, no longer fits either the missile defense framework or Czech needs."
But Vondra called it "a consolation prize"at meeting of NATO defense ministers last week in Brussels.
"Our ideas about the future cooperation are more colorful than just a room of two with some screens there," Vondra said.
